So this song is in spanish. A version of it was the theme song to a telenovela my mom and I used to watch when I was a little girl. It’s such a sweet love song.

Te Quiero Tanto
Si talvez pudieras comprender

que nose, como expresarme bien

si talvez pudiera hacerte ver

que no hay otra mujer mejor que tu para mi.

Si talvez me harias muy feliz,

si talvez me lo podrias decir,

si talvez, detalle a detalle, podrias conquistarme seria tuuya.

Anyone and everyone that wants to participate!

3 Day Lyrical Challenge: Day 2

Once again, thank you Sahi for tagging me in this! It’s kind of nice to do something a little different on my blog ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  • Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Okay so Jack Johnson makes the loveliest little love songs. Plus he met his wife while at the DLG so my heart has a soft spot for this guy haha. #Gauchoalum ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do You Remember

Do you remember when we first met?

I sure do, it was some time in early September

You were lazy about it, you made me wait around

I was so crazy about you I didn’t mind

So I was late for class, I locked my bike to yours

It wasn’t hard to find, you painted flowers on it

I guess that I was afraid that if you rolled away

You might not roll back my direction real soon

Well I was crazy about you then and now

The craziest thing of all is over ten years have gone by

And you’re still mine, we’re locked in time

Let’s rewind

Do you remember when we first moved in together?

The piano took up the living room

You played me boogie-woogie I played you love songs

You’d say we’re playing house now you still say we are

We built our getaway up in a tree we found

We felt so far away but we were still in town

Now I remember watching that old tree burn down

I took a picture that I don’t like to look at

Well all these times they come and go

And alone don’t seem so long

Over ten years have gone by

We can’t rewind, we’re locked in time

But you’re still mine

Do you remember?

Tag: A Trip Down Memory Lane Through Pictures

I saw this a while ago on Sophski’s blog (her post here) and thought it would be a great way to look back on this past year. Since I wasn’t tagged, I am tweaking it a little. Instead of 10 pictures, I am posting 18 ๐Ÿ˜‰ And they’re all from this year. Well, except for one picture that appears towards the end…

Birthdays aren’t a big deal in my family. Actually, my birthday was often forgotten. This year, I spent the day with my BFF and the babies. My anxiety had been unmanageable for weeks. So all we did was watch movies and eat cake. It was one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a very long time. And I got flowers! โค

This is the face of anxiety. My favorite band was in town and I got birthday tickets from my sister to go see them. Yay! Sort of. Again, my anxiety was crippling me. I really debated going. The band I had been waiting to see for years. Suffice it to say, I went. And I enjoyed myself as much as I could. As soon as I got home I had an anxiety attack.

I believe this poem is from Whiskey, Words and a Shovel (volume I) by R.H. Sin. (I need to keep better track of my book screenshots smh). It’s simple. But I think it really captures how I felt in the photo above.

BFF and I went to this bookstore months and months ago. The outside of the store is wrapped in a literary mural. There are portraits of authors, famous book scenes, music artists, etc. It’s amazing! And the inside is just as great. Stacks of books everywhere. A small nook amongst the children’s books where you can sit and read. Two cats that roam inside. And a Princess and the Frog themed bathroom. This place is dope!

As much as I didn’t like A Farewell to Arms, I actually loved this quote:

“If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”

This is not a drill. Repeat. Not a drill. Drive-thru Krispy Kreme’s are a thing!! Why did I not know this before??!

Hello, I am the crazy cat lady that owns 0 cats and 1 dog lol. Stray cats follow me. Idk why. I don’t feed them or anything. Okay, I do talk to them. Occasionally. How can I not? This little cat spent the summer waiting to see me leave my house. And followed me up to a certain point. Whenever I got home, it would be there. Waiting. When I peeked through the window, it would be walking away. Nowadays, there’s a white cat following me around. I have guardian cats. *shrugs shoulders*

Remember when Ihob was a thing? I do! IHOP would probably like to forget that fiasco though haha. It was all a marketing ploy, right? They weren’t really going to permanently change their name? I guess this IHOP didn’t get that memo…

This is my dog. She is a princess. When I feel down, she comforts me ๐Ÿ™‚

This squirrel. Every few days this squirrel would climb our little fruit tree and feast. Drove my dog nuts. Bark bark barking up at the tree. Squirrel only climbed higher and kept munch munch munching. Dropping leftovers to the ground. Nearly hit my dog once. Rude.

A poem by Tupcac Shakur from The Rose That Grew From Concrete. I like the sentiment. It gets me thinking about our current political climate.

First, I didn’t take this picture. BFF did. I’m using her image because she’s a much better photographer than I am. Second, I have no idea what this is. My brother told me to look out the window. I did and saw… this. Texted BFF then went outside to get a better look. Years ago I saw a green light which was some kind of space rocket or something. I’m assuming this was something similar?

This is what I get for being cheap haha. A messed up puzzle. Two, actually. We bought two. Note to self: don’t buy puzzles at the dollar store.
On another note. I have another story related to this picture.
I was reading Beauty and the Beast to my goddaughter (3yo) and her sister (6yo). When 3yo interrupts with: I don’t like that boy *pointing to Gaston*

Me: Why?

3yo: He mean. He don’t read. And he throw books! I don’t like that boy. You like him?

Me: No. I don’t like him either.

6yo: I like him.

3yo: *aghast* You like that boy?

6yo: *giggling* He’s handsome.

3yo: He not handsome! My brother handsome. He *pointing to Gaston* not handsome.

6yo: I think he’s nice.

3yo: No. He mean *flips ahead to where Gaston is manhandling Belle* See! He grab beauty and the beast.

6yo: *trying not to laugh* He’s not grabbing her. They’re holding hands.

3yo: *mouth drops

6yo: *still trying not to laugh*

3yo: *flips ahead to where Gaston injures the Beast* He hurt beauty and the beast *starts choking up* He kill him.

Me: He didn’t kill him. Remember the Beast transforms?

3yo: *Nods* Look! *pointing to injured Beast* Look! He hurt!

6yo: *Doesn’t look*

3yo: Look! No, don’t look at me. Look at the book! [Yes, she really did say this] Sister! Look at beauty and the beast.

6yo: *walks away into the next room and is heard laughing*

Me: Your sister was teasing you.

3yo: *laughs and flips back to where Gaston first appeared* I don’t like that boy. I like her *points to Belle* She read a lot a lot.

Me: I like her too.

Something useful to keep handy. I’ve tried it before. It worked.

Not a picture from this year. Brings back very happy memories though. Plus, how Californian is this picture? Palm trees, mountains, ocean, blue sky and sunshine. Ah, home โค

Reading Peter Rabbit to my goddaughter. Laughed when I got to the bit about the pie. Talk about dark.

My baby brother turned 18. (The only birthday we actually do celebrate haha) How does time fly?? Seems like only yesterday he was learning how to walk…

We put a treat in wrapping paper. My dog is high-key spoiled. I know.

This was a fun tag! Thanks Soph for creating it!

The Blogger Recognition Award

Thank you Crystal Girl for nominating me for this award. It’s nice to reminisce about how all this happened haha.

  • Thank the blogger that nominated you and give a link to their site.
  • Do a post to show your award
  • Give a summary of how your blog started
  • Give two pieces of advice for any new bloggers
  • Select at least 15 other bloggers for this award
  • Let each nominee know youโ€™ve nominated them and give a link to your post

It all started when I read a book. This book actually:

I had a lot of *feelings* about the book. (Still do). At the time, I had no one to discuss it with. Well, no. That’s a lie. I had my bff. (Again, still do). She’s the one I vent my bookish opinions to. The thing is, at the time, she wasn’t a huge reader. So it was a bit of a one-way conversation. The day I told her about the book, I was still riled up and took my therapist’s long-ago advice: write it all down. I did and it was cathartic. The next book I finished, got the same treatment. Before I knew it, I had a few book reviews completed. I didn’t know what to do with them. Then I remembered that years back, an old high school classmate had a blog here on WordPress. I thought about creating one myself but kept putting it off. Reviews piling up. Until one day (almost 1 year ago ๐Ÿ˜ฎ !), while watching Casablanca, I finally decided to go for it. Hence the blog name. And the rest is book blogging history.

I’m terrible with advice. Terrible. So I’m going to be a cliche and say: be yourself. Because that’s legit solid advice. I think the best blogs are the ones where the blogger’s personality shines through. In whatever form it may be. Just stay true to who you are. It’s your blog, your safe space, do what you want with it.

Another piece of advice? Yikes. Um… don’t give up? I think it’s easy to get overwhelmed by everything going on around the blogosphere. To feel some kind of pressure. Especially if you’re new to all this. Find your rhythm. Take a breather when necessary. This is all genuinely fun. And the pressure goes away. For the most part haha.

* I’m not specifically nominating anyone. But I’d love to know how everyone’s blog came to be! Please tell me in the comments below ๐Ÿ™‚ *

Library Lover’s Book Tag

I saw Mandy and Sha’s post and thought ooh, that looks fun. Then I get to the people they’ve tagged. Anyone with book in their blog name. Imagine my excitement when I remembered I had books in mine. So, a big thank you to Mandy and Sha @Book Princess Reviews for tagging me in this! I love my library and what better way to profess my feelings than through a tag โค haha

How often do you visit your local library?
At least once a week. I’m surrounded by libraries so I’m always at one of them at some point. The perks of living in the suburbs.

Are you the type of person who checks out more books than you can read or are you someone who checks out the exact amount of books you intend to read before they are due?
Oh, I check out the exact amount of books. I use OverDrive a lot so I tend to check out a physical book only when it’s not available as an ebook or audiobook.

How old were you when you got your first library card?
Um, I want to say 10? I used my sister’s card until my mom finally allowed me to get my own. Which was after my sister lost hers. 10 sounds about right…

Do you go to your library for a particular book or do you check out anything that piques your interest?
Usually for a particular book. Very rarely do I pick a book up that I hadn’t been planning to read.

Do you only check out books or do you also get DVDs, audiobooks, etc.?
I check out tons of DVD’s. Not everything I want to watch is on Netflix haha. So the library always comes through. Plus, they have a vast CD collection. And I’m all about that economical (aka. cheap) life lol.

From what section of the library do you check out most of your books?
According to my checkout history (excluding OverDrive reads) it seems to be mainly children’s literature. Ha! Makes sense. It’s all of the Nancy Drew books.

What is your favourite part of using your local library?
How am I suppose to narrow it down??? Lemme just list a few reasons:

1) Bonding with my Goddaughter. She and I have been going to storytime at the library for over a year now. She loves books. I love books. The first time she walked into the library, her little mouth dropped. And she still cries whenever we have to return her books. So we check more out and then head to the bookstore. Which brings me to reason #2.

2) The library bookstore! There is one shelf full of free books. Kid’s books are $1. Paperbacks 50 cents. Hardbacks $2. So babygirl and I have zero restraint. The rule is 2 books for each of us. Ha! Neither one of us sticks to that. The volunteers in charge of the bookstore are super nice. They’re actually pretty lenient with book prices. For example, this past week I bought a total of about 15 books. 8 for me, 7 for my goddaughter. I only paid $4. They want to encourage kids to read so when they see a child’s enthusiasm towards books, they let them keep all the books they’ve picked out for free. Extremely generous.

3) Library events. Holy crap the events! There’s the summer reading program. The YA events are the best though. There are always author discussions and signings going on. There are adult arts and crafts. Book clubs. Oh my goodness, so many things. There’s honestly, something for everyone. Whatever age group.

4) The apps! OverDrive, Libby, Freegal, Mango, etc. All free apps I use courtesy of my library. OverDrive is my life. It’s the one app I couldn’t live without. It is where I check most of my books out from. It’s easy to use and the book selection is top-notch.

5) The librarians. These people are dope. Dope, dope, dope. Incredibly helpful and kind. Always quick to lend a hand or offer a book recommendation. Where would we be without them???

I am going to steal Sha and Mandy’s idea (sort of ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and tag anyone whose blog name has the word library (or something library-related) in it… I’m keeping it broad on purpose ๐Ÿ™‚

World Mental Health Day: Pick Me Up Playlist Tag

This is such a great tag! World Mental Health Day was on October 10th this year and I completely missed it. So thank you Sophia Ismaa for tagging me in this! You know what’s funny? I actually made a playlist of songs that make me happy after a conversation I had with my therapist years ago. These songs are on that playlist. And I do listen to it every once in a while when I start to feel down.

  • Link back to โ€˜Pick Me Up Playlistโ€™ creator โ€“ Laura Spoonie
  • Tag the blogger who nominated you
  • Mention how music helps your Mental Health
  • List 10 songs that you would consider to be a part of your โ€˜Pick Me Up Playlistโ€™ (optional: mention a little bit why each song is on your list)
  • Tag 10 other bloggers to join in with the โ€˜Pick Me Up Playlistโ€™ Challenge

1. Wannabe – Spice Girls

It’s the Spice Girls! I still want to be Baby Spice lol. Enough said.

2. El Chico del Apartamento 512 – Selena

My Queen โค !!!! This song is light and fluffy. In a nutshell: it’s about a girl that has a crush on her neighbor; the guy in apartment 512.

3. Livin’ on a Prayer – Bon Jovi

“You live for the fight when it’s all you got”

4. 99 Red Balloons – Nena

First heard it on Gilmore Girls. But it reminds me of college. I remember one of my college roommates putting it on a party playlist at some point.

5. Love on Top – Beyoncรฉ

This song makes me ridiculously happy. The first time I heard it was when Beyoncรฉ sang it at the MTV awards and revealed she was pregnant. That joy is radiating off of her and it’s contagious ๐Ÿ˜€

6. La Tortura – Shakira Ft. Alejandro Sanz

My other queen โค !! I still have the cassette tapes of her early music lol. It’s nostalgia coupled with great music.

7. Young Folks – Peter Bjorn and John

It’s the whistling. As soon as I hear it, it puts me in a good mood.

8. Do You Love Me – The Contours

I love dancing to this song when no one is watching. Also, it’s The Contours. No real explanation needed.

9. Paradise – George Ezra

It’s an upbeat, lovey-dovey song.

10. Me Vale – Manรก

OH MY GOD this song!! It’s an anthem!! Whenever people like to voice their unasked for opinion regarding my life choices, I listen to this song. Instant mood booster. In a nutshell: it’s a guy talking about how he doesn’t give a damn about what people think of him and calling them out on it. Loose translation of one of the lyrics: “Instead of criticizing my life and pointing out what’s wrong with it, you should focus on yourself.” Yes!!!

The Sunshine Blogger Award #3

Thank you Brittany @Perfectly Tolerable for nominating me!!! These are always fun to do! And I absolutely loved your questions ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and ask them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the sunshine blogger award logo in your post/or on your blog

1) Show me a picture of your bookshelf!

I don’t have a bookshelf ๐Ÿ˜ฅ My books are scattered all over my home haha. But most of my books are in this container.

2) Name two books that you would/do recommend to everyone?

Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder. It’s so good and I recommend it all the time! If you’re even mildly interested in philosophy, then this is the book for you!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s already a modern-day classic imho. Very pertinent read! Everyone needs to read this book.

3) Are there any songs that you associate with a particular story or characters?

Asleep performed by The Smiths always reminds me of  Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower โค I can’t listen to it without immediately thinking of him.
And of course,

La Bamba performed by Los Lobos reminds of Ari from Aristotle from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I grew up listening to this song! It’s nostalgic but now whenever I listen to it I think of Ari since he mentioned quite a bit in the book.

4) Where is your favorite place to read?
The stairs in my house lol. The only place  I won’t fall asleep while reading.

5) Do your friends/family know that you have a blog?
Only my bff haha (Hi babe!)

6) How do you decide which book to read next?

So… this is my book box. It’s full of books that I really want to read soon. It’s conveniently located under my bed lol. Whenever I’m looking for a new read I look at my book box first and see if any of the books is calling to me. It’s simply based on feeling.

7) Do you have a favorite word? If so, what is it?
Eureka! No clue why but it puts a smile on my face.

8) Is there one particular blog post that youโ€™re really proud of?
Um… I’m equally proud of all of them ๐Ÿ™‚

9) Do you have any tattoos? If so, what?
Nope! But I want to get this (well, only the finch):

10) What book gave you the worst book hangover?

Slaughterhouse-Five  by Kurt Vonnegut!!! I went into a serious book slump. I put down every book I tried to read. It was MONTHS before I managed to read another book.

11) What are three things you always carry with yourself?

Besides my phone and wallet ๐Ÿ˜‰ I always have a book and/or my kindle on me, a snack (because I go from not hungry to ravenous in .05 seconds), and my water bottle.

Well, that’s it. Once again, thank you Brittany! โค

*I’ve been a little busier this week than usual so I’m not going to tag anyone today*

Tag: 13 Reasons Why I Keep Going

This tag is personal to me. 4 years ago, almost to the day, is when I was hospitalized. I’ve talked a bit about it before so I won’t do it now. But since 2014, I’ve gotten treatment and everyday I’m thankful to be here in this wonderful world.

  • Mention the person who nominated you
  • List 13 Reasons Why you keep going
  • Nominate 10 people
  • Display the picture

So, here are just a handful of the reasons that keep me grounded. In no particular order:

1. Family

My niece and my brother. My brother was my Christmas gift many moons ago. I begged my mom for a baby brother and he was born days before Christmas โค My niece is mini-me. She’s a reader and for her upcoming birthday I’m planning to get her her first Nancy Drew books ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Rain

I love the smell of rain. Or wet dirt haha. It’s soothing.

3. Friends

Specifically, my person โค We balance each other out. She’s the Meredith to my Yang. I will forever be grateful to her for not only putting up with my moods but for letting me practice my mothering skills with her children lol

4. An NSYNC reunion

I will be a thousand years old and still waiting for a reunion tour haha. JT give the people what they want!!

5. Travel

There are still many countries I would like to visit. The motherland is #1 on that list.

6. My Princess

Memorial Day 2014, we got my dog. Her original family gave her away (to my mom’s friend) once she got “old” and was unable to have anymore healthy puppies. My mom’s friend already had too many pets so they gave her to us. When we brought her home, my dog was depressed. She wouldn’t eat, she wouldn’t drink, she wouldn’t move. She stayed in her bed for days. At the time, I was struggling as well. But I made an effort to help her. Months later, she helped me. Now, we’re both happy and healthy together โค

7. Books

This is my physical TBR. Not to mention, there are tons of unread books on my Kindle as well. So many books out in the world still waiting for me to read them.

8. Moments like this with the little ones

My Godbaby’s first trip to the zoo and she was excited to see the giraffes. When it was her turn to feed Philip, his tongue brushed against her fingers and amidst giggles she exclaimed “he lick me!”. Now, if that doesn’t put a smile on your face, then IDK what will.

9. Sunsets

Not only are they gorgeous, but it means nighttime is near which is comforting. I’m a night owl.

10. Ziplining

I don’t want to pee on a bunch of people lol! But ziplining is at the top of my bucket list. Specifically through a jungle or forest or something. I want to pull a Jane and fly through the trees.

11. Baseball

Love baseball. Funny thing is, I’m not a Dodger’s fan lmao. I’m an AL girl. I would love to see my little Angels win another World Series!

12. Adventure

I’ve had some of the best times going on road trips with my friends. There are many more adventures I plan to go on.

13. Beauty in the world

This is where the deep-buried, semi-religious upbringing I had appears. All I could think when I snapped this picture (besides “omg how amazing”) is “it’s a double promise”. Anyway, there are a lot of beautiful sights, sounds and smells that fill me with unexpected hope. It’s the little things.

Thank you Sophia Ismaa and Crystal Girl for tagging me!

This has been one cathartic trip haha. And kind of nostalgic. Had to dig through the archives for some of these pictures.

And in honor of National Dog Day (!!), here’s another picture of my furbaby! ๐Ÿ˜€

Once again, thank you Booklook โค !

20 Questions Book Tag

Way back when, Booklook tagged me to do this tag. Thank you and sorry it took so long to get to haha.

Now, let’s do this!

1. How many books is too many books in a series?

I think anything more than 4 (If it’s YA or an adult series). Children’s books are different though. The more there are the better ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Ugh. Don’t get me started! I’m mad at Cassandra Clare for making me wait a year to find out what happens in her new novel after she left us with a killer cliffhanger. In conclusion, I hate them if and only if I have to wait forever to find out what happens!

3. Hardback or Paperback?

Paperback. Hardbacks are eye candy but not really convenient to actually read.

4. Favorite book?

โ€‹My go-to answer is always The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. But I actually have a lot of favorites. A lot. Basically, if I own a physical copy of a book, then it’s a favorite.

5. Least favorite book?

Too Far by Rich Shapero.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Yes haha. I’m a sucker for cheesy tropes.

7. The most recent book you just couldnโ€™t finish?

โ€‹Diarios de Motocicleta by Ernesto “Che” Guevara. It’s not that I couldn’t finish it haha but… it’s in spanish! Took me 3 weeks to get 36% through it. Then my library loan expired and I didn’t renew it. I haven’t given up on it yet though! It’s a work in progress ๐Ÿ˜‰

8. A book that youโ€™re currently reading?

Safe Haven by Nicolas Sparks. It’s…okay…

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

Summer Sisters by Judy Blume to my person & The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas to Sophski. (Holding my review of the latter for a special post…)

10. Oldest book youโ€™ve read? (Publication Date)

โ€‹Does the Iliad count??? You can’t really tell, but my copy is held together by tape haha

11. Newest book youโ€™ve read? (Publication Date)
