A final THANK YOU to Sahi for tagging me in this challenge! I’ve had a blast listening to tons of music haha.

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  • Nominate three other bloggers each day.

So this song is in spanish. A version of it was the theme song to a telenovela my mom and I used to watch when I was a little girl. It’s such a sweet love song.

Te Quiero Tanto
Si talvez pudieras comprender

que nose, como expresarme bien

si talvez pudiera hacerte ver

que no hay otra mujer mejor que tu para mi.

Si talvez me harias muy feliz,

si talvez me lo podrias decir,

si talvez, detalle a detalle, podrias conquistarme seria tuuya.

Anyone and everyone that wants to participate!

3 Day Lyrical Challenge: Day 2

Once again, thank you Sahi for tagging me in this! It’s kind of nice to do something a little different on my blog πŸ™‚

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  • Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Okay so Jack Johnson makes the loveliest little love songs. Plus he met his wife while at the DLG so my heart has a soft spot for this guy haha. #Gauchoalum πŸ˜‰

Do You Remember

Do you remember when we first met?

I sure do, it was some time in early September

You were lazy about it, you made me wait around

I was so crazy about you I didn’t mind

So I was late for class, I locked my bike to yours

It wasn’t hard to find, you painted flowers on it

I guess that I was afraid that if you rolled away

You might not roll back my direction real soon

Well I was crazy about you then and now

The craziest thing of all is over ten years have gone by

And you’re still mine, we’re locked in time

Let’s rewind

Do you remember when we first moved in together?

The piano took up the living room

You played me boogie-woogie I played you love songs

You’d say we’re playing house now you still say we are

We built our getaway up in a tree we found

We felt so far away but we were still in town

Now I remember watching that old tree burn down

I took a picture that I don’t like to look at

Well all these times they come and go

And alone don’t seem so long

Over ten years have gone by

We can’t rewind, we’re locked in time

But you’re still mine

Do you remember?

Tag: A Trip Down Memory Lane Through Pictures

I saw this a while ago on Sophski’s blog (her post here) and thought it would be a great way to look back on this past year. Since I wasn’t tagged, I am tweaking it a little. Instead of 10 pictures, I am posting 18 πŸ˜‰ And they’re all from this year. Well, except for one picture that appears towards the end…

Birthdays aren’t a big deal in my family. Actually, my birthday was often forgotten. This year, I spent the day with my BFF and the babies. My anxiety had been unmanageable for weeks. So all we did was watch movies and eat cake. It was one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a very long time. And I got flowers! ❀

This is the face of anxiety. My favorite band was in town and I got birthday tickets from my sister to go see them. Yay! Sort of. Again, my anxiety was crippling me. I really debated going. The band I had been waiting to see for years. Suffice it to say, I went. And I enjoyed myself as much as I could. As soon as I got home I had an anxiety attack.

I believe this poem is from Whiskey, Words and a Shovel (volume I) by R.H. Sin. (I need to keep better track of my book screenshots smh). It’s simple. But I think it really captures how I felt in the photo above.

BFF and I went to this bookstore months and months ago. The outside of the store is wrapped in a literary mural. There are portraits of authors, famous book scenes, music artists, etc. It’s amazing! And the inside is just as great. Stacks of books everywhere. A small nook amongst the children’s books where you can sit and read. Two cats that roam inside. And a Princess and the Frog themed bathroom. This place is dope!

As much as I didn’t like A Farewell to Arms, I actually loved this quote:

“If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”

This is not a drill. Repeat. Not a drill. Drive-thru Krispy Kreme’s are a thing!! Why did I not know this before??!

Hello, I am the crazy cat lady that owns 0 cats and 1 dog lol. Stray cats follow me. Idk why. I don’t feed them or anything. Okay, I do talk to them. Occasionally. How can I not? This little cat spent the summer waiting to see me leave my house. And followed me up to a certain point. Whenever I got home, it would be there. Waiting. When I peeked through the window, it would be walking away. Nowadays, there’s a white cat following me around. I have guardian cats. *shrugs shoulders*

Remember when Ihob was a thing? I do! IHOP would probably like to forget that fiasco though haha. It was all a marketing ploy, right? They weren’t really going to permanently change their name? I guess this IHOP didn’t get that memo…

This is my dog. She is a princess. When I feel down, she comforts me πŸ™‚

This squirrel. Every few days this squirrel would climb our little fruit tree and feast. Drove my dog nuts. Bark bark barking up at the tree. Squirrel only climbed higher and kept munch munch munching. Dropping leftovers to the ground. Nearly hit my dog once. Rude.

A poem by Tupcac Shakur from The Rose That Grew From Concrete. I like the sentiment. It gets me thinking about our current political climate.

First, I didn’t take this picture. BFF did. I’m using her image because she’s a much better photographer than I am. Second, I have no idea what this is. My brother told me to look out the window. I did and saw… this. Texted BFF then went outside to get a better look. Years ago I saw a green light which was some kind of space rocket or something. I’m assuming this was something similar?

This is what I get for being cheap haha. A messed up puzzle. Two, actually. We bought two. Note to self: don’t buy puzzles at the dollar store.
On another note. I have another story related to this picture.
I was reading Beauty and the Beast to my goddaughter (3yo) and her sister (6yo). When 3yo interrupts with: I don’t like that boy *pointing to Gaston*

Me: Why?

3yo: He mean. He don’t read. And he throw books! I don’t like that boy. You like him?

Me: No. I don’t like him either.

6yo: I like him.

3yo: *aghast* You like that boy?

6yo: *giggling* He’s handsome.

3yo: He not handsome! My brother handsome. He *pointing to Gaston* not handsome.

6yo: I think he’s nice.

3yo: No. He mean *flips ahead to where Gaston is manhandling Belle* See! He grab beauty and the beast.

6yo: *trying not to laugh* He’s not grabbing her. They’re holding hands.

3yo: *mouth drops

6yo: *still trying not to laugh*

3yo: *flips ahead to where Gaston injures the Beast* He hurt beauty and the beast *starts choking up* He kill him.

Me: He didn’t kill him. Remember the Beast transforms?

3yo: *Nods* Look! *pointing to injured Beast* Look! He hurt!

6yo: *Doesn’t look*

3yo: Look! No, don’t look at me. Look at the book! [Yes, she really did say this] Sister! Look at beauty and the beast.

6yo: *walks away into the next room and is heard laughing*

Me: Your sister was teasing you.

3yo: *laughs and flips back to where Gaston first appeared* I don’t like that boy. I like her *points to Belle* She read a lot a lot.

Me: I like her too.

Something useful to keep handy. I’ve tried it before. It worked.

Not a picture from this year. Brings back very happy memories though. Plus, how Californian is this picture? Palm trees, mountains, ocean, blue sky and sunshine. Ah, home ❀

Reading Peter Rabbit to my goddaughter. Laughed when I got to the bit about the pie. Talk about dark.

My baby brother turned 18. (The only birthday we actually do celebrate haha) How does time fly?? Seems like only yesterday he was learning how to walk…

We put a treat in wrapping paper. My dog is high-key spoiled. I know.

This was a fun tag! Thanks Soph for creating it!

Tag: 13 Reasons Why I Keep Going

This tag is personal to me. 4 years ago, almost to the day, is when I was hospitalized. I’ve talked a bit about it before so I won’t do it now. But since 2014, I’ve gotten treatment and everyday I’m thankful to be here in this wonderful world.

  • Mention the person who nominated you
  • List 13 Reasons Why you keep going
  • Nominate 10 people
  • Display the picture

So, here are just a handful of the reasons that keep me grounded. In no particular order:

1. Family

My niece and my brother. My brother was my Christmas gift many moons ago. I begged my mom for a baby brother and he was born days before Christmas ❀ My niece is mini-me. She’s a reader and for her upcoming birthday I’m planning to get her her first Nancy Drew books πŸ˜‰

2. Rain

I love the smell of rain. Or wet dirt haha. It’s soothing.

3. Friends

Specifically, my person ❀ We balance each other out. She’s the Meredith to my Yang. I will forever be grateful to her for not only putting up with my moods but for letting me practice my mothering skills with her children lol

4. An NSYNC reunion

I will be a thousand years old and still waiting for a reunion tour haha. JT give the people what they want!!

5. Travel

There are still many countries I would like to visit. The motherland is #1 on that list.

6. My Princess

Memorial Day 2014, we got my dog. Her original family gave her away (to my mom’s friend) once she got “old” and was unable to have anymore healthy puppies. My mom’s friend already had too many pets so they gave her to us. When we brought her home, my dog was depressed. She wouldn’t eat, she wouldn’t drink, she wouldn’t move. She stayed in her bed for days. At the time, I was struggling as well. But I made an effort to help her. Months later, she helped me. Now, we’re both happy and healthy together ❀

7. Books

This is my physical TBR. Not to mention, there are tons of unread books on my Kindle as well. So many books out in the world still waiting for me to read them.

8. Moments like this with the little ones

My Godbaby’s first trip to the zoo and she was excited to see the giraffes. When it was her turn to feed Philip, his tongue brushed against her fingers and amidst giggles she exclaimed “he lick me!”. Now, if that doesn’t put a smile on your face, then IDK what will.

9. Sunsets

Not only are they gorgeous, but it means nighttime is near which is comforting. I’m a night owl.

10. Ziplining

I don’t want to pee on a bunch of people lol! But ziplining is at the top of my bucket list. Specifically through a jungle or forest or something. I want to pull a Jane and fly through the trees.

11. Baseball

Love baseball. Funny thing is, I’m not a Dodger’s fan lmao. I’m an AL girl. I would love to see my little Angels win another World Series!

12. Adventure

I’ve had some of the best times going on road trips with my friends. There are many more adventures I plan to go on.

13. Beauty in the world

This is where the deep-buried, semi-religious upbringing I had appears. All I could think when I snapped this picture (besides “omg how amazing”) is “it’s a double promise”. Anyway, there are a lot of beautiful sights, sounds and smells that fill me with unexpected hope. It’s the little things.

Thank you Sophia Ismaa and Crystal Girl for tagging me!

This has been one cathartic trip haha. And kind of nostalgic. Had to dig through the archives for some of these pictures.

And in honor of National Dog Day (!!), here’s another picture of my furbaby! πŸ˜€

The day I was triggered, which opened the floodgates to all the horrid thoughts running through my overactive brain, leading to my being hospitalized weeks later. That relatively small period of my life was one big, depressing, sobfest. Fun times.

Sahi’s Questions For Me:

1. What book do you think made you into an avid reader?

This is a very good question haha. I don’t think it was one particular book but a whole bunch of ’em. But growing up I reread this book alot

It was one of the very few books in my home and I made do with what I had (No one in my family is really into reading).

2. If you got the chance to interview your favorite author, who would it be and what would you ask them?

Ha! I know the answer to this one. I would be too awe-struck and shy to say anything.

3. What’s the book that is on top of your summer TBR?

Well, it was Ari and Dante. Um, right now I want to re-read Gidget by Frederick Kohner and maybe start Red Rising and Summer Sisters?

4. What do you like the most about being a blogger?
The blogging community. I know pretty much everyone gives this answer. But it really is such an amazing community. I love being a part of it ❀

5. Have you ever bought a book purely based on it’s cover and which one was it?

Haha yes! Um… There are a few but I’ll go with Arcadia by Lauren Groff

6. Are there any classics/books that you think everybody should read and why

To Kill a Mockingbird
by Harper Lee. Sadly the themes are still relevant today…

7. Have you read a hyped book that disappointed you a lot?

Anna and the French Kiss
! I’ll have a review of that whole series up soon… Let’s just say I am most definitely not a fan.

8. Which book characters do you want to be best friends with?

So many! There is the obvious trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione haha. Um, Ari and Dante. Cinder and her crew…

9. What’s your favorite genre and why do you like it?

YA and Classics, I guess. YA appeals to my love of drama and happily ever afters. Classics because I love history and the stories have withstood the test of time. Amazing!

10. Do you like going to the bookstore or buying books online?

Bookstore! Definitely. I very, very rarely buy books online. And even then, only e-books. If I want to buy a book I go to the store. I’m old school that way haha πŸ˜‰

11. What book would you like to recommend to me?

Hm… Sophie’s WorldOrdinary People, and The Little Paris Bookshop. (Links go to Goodreads).

My Questions For You:

1. Would you rather travel back in time and alter history or go to the future and find out how and when you die?

2. Think of your favorite word. Recommend a book whose title corresponds with a letter in your favorite word. (For example, if your favorite word is CAN, you would recommend 3 books. One book title that begins with C, another title that begins with A, and a title that begins with N).

3. Who would win in an arm wrestling game, you or your best friend?

4. When was the last time you binge watched a show and what was it?

5. What place would you never ever want to visit?

6. Have you met any celebrities before, and if so, who?

7.  Do you hear yanny or laurel? (If you have no clue what I’m talking about, click here, listen to the audio recording, and then come back and write your answer πŸ™‚ )

8. Is there anything you miss about your childhood?

9. What is your favorite music genre?

10. What would be the title of your autobiography?

11. What is the first/oldest memory you remember?

Once again, THANK YOU Sahi ❀

And no pressure on anyone to participate!

Happy blogging everyone!

Tag: Me in Book Characters

Thank you Sophia Ismaa for tagging me! I thought long and hard about doing this tag because most of the characters I relate to are pretty depressing. So while this post starts off that way, I think it picks up lol.

  • Thank the creators of the tag – Thank you, Windowsill Book Blog
  • Thank whoever tagged you – Thank you, Sophia Ismaa
  • List 5 characters who you are most like and explain why
  • Tag other bloggers

1. Charlie

I found my book!!!

Sigh. Okay, 4 years ago I was in a really dark place and I wound up in the hospital. This is the first book I read afterwards and getting to know Charlie helped me cope with what was going on in my life. Never have I related to a character so much. It’s depressing but I love him. And when I met Stephen Chbosky all I could do was stand there like an idiot while he signed my book. I said absolutely nothing to the man. So, I’ll do it right now. Thank you Stephen Chbosky for creating Charlie and giving a voice to all wallflowers in the world. Thank you for writing a book that has had such a great impact on my life. Thank you, thank you thank you!!!

2. Anne Elliot

Like Anne, I am the middle child. And like Anne, I’ve had to learn to not put aside my own feelings. To not be completed swayed by the opinions of others.

3. Emily

Her best friend is a social butterfly that is always trying to get her out of her comfort zone. Hence the lists. I am Emily. And like her, I too have a friend that is always getting me to go out and try new things. She makes my life so much more interesting. And she puts up with me, so how can I not love her? ❀

4. Lane Kim

I’m kind of cheating with this one lol

I loved Rory and while I could obviously relate to her book obsession, it was her best friend Lane that I could see myself in. Lane grew up with a strict mother (same!), has an alternative music taste (same!) and a best friend that her mom doesn’t really approve of (same girl, same!).

 5. Bess Marvin

Tag yourself! I’m Bess, the one on the left

I like to think I’m the voice of reason amongst my friends haha. And like Bess, when push comes to shove, I set aside my fears and help my friends out.

So… I’m a mess. Thanks Sophski πŸ˜› I’m crying and laughing over here haha. Kind of cathartic though. Not gonna lie. I realize this post was a little depressing. So no one worry, I’m fine. Seriously πŸ™‚

As always, no pressure on anyone to do this tag!

Happy blogging! πŸ˜€

Tag: Books I Own That I Haven’t Read… Yet

My buddy Sophski πŸ˜› @ Sophia Ismaa Writes tagged me in this. Basically you have to go through all the unread books you own and determine whether you’re still interested in reading them or not. Initially I thought it would be difficult because of all the books I bought last month. So I decided to cheat. Just a little bit. I mean, I bought the books recently so of course I’m interested in reading them. Right? Right. Besides, I’ve already talked about them before.

Okay, so taking out the hauled books from last month, I am left with only a handful of books. Apparently I’m pretty good at reading the books I own haha.

Enough rambling, let’s get to it (book covers link back to their goodreads page).

First up, is this book. I remember having to buy this book for a Religious Studies class in college. But I don’t think we even read it. I kept it though, so I guess I was interested in reading it at some point. Now… eh.

Verdict: Somewhat interested. It’s historical so it does appeal to me in that sense.

Ah, okay. So I’m low-key obsessed with Princess Diana. Who isn’t? And I bought this book when Borders had their big “going out of business sale”. It’s full of photographs and I can’t believe I forgot I owned it.

Verdict: Definitely still interested. I was  flipping through the pages before I started writing this post.

Sophia, you might like this one! “It is a psychology of women in the truest sense”. Confession time. I was planning to donate this book without having read it. My friend’s mom gave it to me when she was moving. And I judged the book by it’s title. Now, I’m finally reading the goodreads description haha.

Verdict: Interested!

Well, I was a young and ambitious student πŸ˜‰ . Yes, that is War and Peace. In Italian. smh. I bought this book one night while strolling through Palermo. It was 5 Euro!

Verdict: Still interested. Not in this copy though haha. I’m keeping it but I need to buy an English version.

I bought this book right after I finished reading The Stranger. That was a great little novel and I was eager to read more by Camus. And then as luck should have it, I found this book at my library’s bookstore.

Verdict: Interested!

I am also low-key obsessed with the Kennedy’s. It took me years to find this book. And it’s been years since I bought it. It is a highly-detailed account of President Kennedy’s assassination and the days following it. Please don’t judge me by this book’s condition! It looked like this when I bought it.

Verdict: Insanely interested. Haven’t gotten around to it because it’s a looong read.

I found this book at a bus stop! It’s a bit of a home-ec guide. There’s things inside like “how to make your own jam”, “how to tie a tie” and “how to waltz”. It’s pretty cool, from what I’ve seen.

Verdict: Interested. I don’t think it’s one of those books you actually have to sit and read. It’s a guide. I should acquaint myself with the subjects it covers though.

My friend gave me this book haha. Her boss gave her this book and another. She kept the other. It’s a self-help book. That’s all I know about it.

Verdict: Not interested. But maybe one day I will be?

I bought this book only a few days ago. Since I haven’t mentioned it before, I figured it should go on this list. Now, I have seen the movie adaptation. But I didn’t even know it was based on a book until The Cozy Pages did a post on this books various covers not too long ago. (I’m not a fan of this cover though! 😦 )

Verdict: Interested! I kind of love the movie.

Another book I recently bought. My friend owns a copy and wants us to read it together.

Verdict: Hesitatingly interested. I’ve seen the movie but I didn’t really like it?
* I should mention that I did leave some books out. Ethnographies, school texts, stuff like that *

I TAG: Anyone and Everyone that wants to participate!

You know, as I was digging through my books I realized there are a few that I know I read, but could not remember one single detail about. That will probably be a post for another day haha.

It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.

Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

It is the opening line of A Tale of Two Cities that is often quoted. But to me, the closing line of the novel is the one that has always struck me. It’s so eloquently beautiful coming from Sydney Carton’s lips. It gets me every time.
