A while ago I was tagged by Brittany @ Perfectly Tolerable to do this tag. These are always difficult for me to do. I have so many bookish opinions but as soon as I have to express them, my mind goes blank. I did manage to finish this though. Yay!

Let’s get to it.

NOPE. ending:

A book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage or simply because the ending was crappy.

A Clockwork Orange. Do you really think Alex got tired of acting out his violent urges? Really?? Nope. I don’t buy it.

NOPE. protagonist:

A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

Briony from Atonement. With one lie she fucked up EVERYONES lives! I loathe this little girl. Loathe.

NOPE. series:

A series that turned out to be a huge pile of nope after you’ve invested all of that time and energy on it.

Sigh. The Maze Runner series. That ending. Come on!

NOPE. pairing:

A “ship” you don’t support.

Hm… Idk… Oh! I guess Ron and Hermione. I love them. They’re great. Not together though. I can’t really see them as a couple.

NOPE. plot twist:

A twist you didn’t see coming and didn’t like.

Gone Girl. I remember my friend and I talked about this book for days…

NOPE. genre:

A genre you will never read.

I’m not sure. I’m okay with pretty much any genre. I don’t read many westerns though!

NOPE. book format:

A book format you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

I really don’t like the Dover Thrift Editions (even though I obviously own them lol). They’re cheap for a reason 😉

NOPE. trope:

A trope that makes you go NOPE.

Cheating in YA! In real life there are consequences. But these books seem to gloss over and justify it. Nope. That is not okay.

NOPE. recommendation:

A book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.

A Child Called It. My friend keeps telling me to read this book. I know it’s a sad read and I can’t put myself through that. It’s based on the author’s childhood and… nope. I just can’t. Too depressing.

NOPE. cliché:

A cliché or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

I’m with Brittany on this one. The whole “you’re not like other girls” shtick is so damn annoying. I roll my eyes everytime a book character says this.

NOPE. love interest:

A love interest that’s not worthy of being one.

Willoughby from Sense and Sensibility. He was too perfectly perfect. And then he does Marianne wrong. She dodged a bullet.

NOPE. book:

A book that shouldn’t have existed.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (I’m sure the play is great lol but boy was this some kind of awful). Oh and of course Mein Kampf. Damn him to the lowest pit in hell.

NOPE. villain:

A villain you would hate to cross.

Adelina from The Young Elites. She killed the love of her life. (Accidentally. But still). Do not want to mess with her.

NOPE. death:

A character death that still haunts you.

Finch from All the Bright Places… my heart will always grieve for this boy…

NOPE. author:

An author you had a bad experience reading and have decided to quit.

Um… I don’t quite have an answer. I really want to say Melville haha but let’s be real, I’ll most likely read something else by him at some point. I also want to say John Greene. But again, chances are I’ll pick up one of his other books one of these days.

*No pressure on anyone to participate!*

Thank you Brittany for tagging me! I had a lot of fun doing this! ❤

  1. I love your answers, don’t know how I’m going to do justice to them. 😭
I don’t think Alex got tired, I think those urges were present but the aversion therapy went so far as to make sure his body didn’t cooperate. It’s basically the equivalent of being teased blue.
Oh my God, Briony. I think we’re all allowed to hate her. She ruined pretty much everyone’s lives.
The Maze Runner series from start to finish was just terrible and more like an action film than a book.
Whatttt?! :O Hermione and Ron are so cute together. I’ll admit, I’m still not sure what they talk about together as most of their conversation tend to centre around Hermione telling him off.
No… that Gone Girl twist was straight up delicious. 😂
Yep, Western is terrible. Stay away from Lonesome Dove.
Haven’t seen much cheating in YA… yet lol.
A Child Called It – it’s one of those books that you feel you have to read because it is the sad reality but at the same time… it’s just too upsetting.
Girl, I’m putting that freaking pic on Twitter (can I?). That saying is annoying and not impressive to any self-respecting woman.
Willoughby needed to be straight up punched. Poor Marianne. Colonel Brandon is a sweetie though. ❤️
Finch’s death…. no words, only this emoji 💔.

    1. Idk I can’t see Alex going back and having a regular life. He says he still has violent urges. But then he’s sick of acting them out. Maybe you’re right…
My hatred for Briony runs deep lol. I can rant about her forever.
After everything that happened there’s no cure?! So those kids died for nothing? But it’s okay because you can go live somewhere special. Nope!
Ron and Hermione are canon so I’m okay with them lol. Not to be mean to Ron but my girl Hermione deserved so much more.
Omg she got away with everything!! And now they’re bringing a baby into the world. My goodness! A new pawn in her awful schemes. I think my jaw is still on the floor somewhere lol. I definitely did not see anything of that happening!
Maybe one day I’ll read A Child Called It. But not right now. My friend is pretty persistent though lol
*whispers* It’s not mine. I found it online. But! If you click on the picture it should take you to where I found it 🙂
      Colonel Brandon ❤
      Finch smh 😥

      1. Looool I would love to see that rant on Briony.
Exactly, right? Because we were led to believe there’d be a cure, so to read that it was as if the series had become a kiddy version of the Walking Dead. All that drama and these poor kids being killed left, right and centre. It was sickening.
I don’t know… I feel like they were opposites attract so they both had two different personalities that helped each other out. I like Ron, he’s a lot of fun!
Lol, she should not have been allowed to procreate, the poor child. 😭 You have to pity her for who she’s become that she has to become and thinks she needs to become a completely different person in order to receive love. I don’t know how she thought that this was the way… that you have to fake who you are. Mindf**k.
Looooool, tell her no. 😭 It’s difficult material.
I put it up on Twitter, I just loved it so much. 😭

  2. I’ve scrubbed the Cursed Child from my mind- though if I could I would totally see the play. Loved your answers though I must admit I hated Marianne so much (in large part due to Willoughby) that I will forever think Brandon deserved better 🙂

  3. Loves your answers! The ending of the Maze Runner still disappoints me and I read that years and years ago! And I hate cheating in YA, especially in contemporaries. I don’t know why it happens so much and then brushed aside like it’s nothing! Great post!

  4. Yay! I’m glad you participated! I had trouble coming up with answers for this one too!

A child called it is super sad and depressing so I don’t blame you for not wanting to read it! Its a tough one!

Great answers! (except for Ron and Hermione, we will have to agree to disagree 😉 )
